Course Details

The Certificate III in Allied Health Assistance reflects the role of people who provide assistance to allied health professionals under predetermined guidelines.

Allied Health Assistance roles work may include:

  • Following treatment plans for therapeutic interventions
  • Conducting programs under the regular direct, indirect or remote supervision of an allied health professional

This course is part of the Lower fees, local skills initiative, allowing eligible students to pay just half of the standard course fees for training in 2021.

Entry Requirements

Entry & eligibility requirements

There are no pre-entry study or qualification requirements, but to be eligible, you must:

  • Reside in Western Australia;
  • Possess suitable English language, literacy and numeracy skills (e.g. you will need to be able to read, understand and communicate care requirements on a care plan); and
  • Provide a copy of your passport or photo identification.

Prior to undertaking practical placement, you will be required to provide:

  • Current National Police Clearance
  • A current flu vaccination (unless medically exempt)

Career & study pathways

This certificate qualifies you to pursue roles such as support/care worker, Therapy Assistant, Physiotherapy assistant, Allied health assistant, planned activity assistant, Podiatry assistant, Speech pathology assistant

Those with this qualification may wish to continue by studying HLT43015 Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistance or further Allied Health related disciplines.


Study Method

Duration, learning method & assessment

The delivery of this qualification is a blended delivery mode of regular attendance to face-to-face workshops and self-study. The total duration for this qualification may be between 6 to 12 months and can be completed at a pace that suits the individual student.

Forms of study include:

  • Face to face clustered lecturer/trainer directed workshops
  • Workshop based practical skills and written assessments
  • Post course assignments
  • On the job training/assessments
  • 80 hours of practical placement (minimum)

  • CHCMHS001 Work with people with mental health issues
Recognition of Prior Learning

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is an assessment of your prior skills, knowledge and life experiences that can be transferred to complete aspects of your current course requirements.

You might already possess some of the skills or knowledge being assessed on this course. If so, you may not be required to complete one or more of the units of competency.

You first need to apply to have your knowledge and skills assessed for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). This must be done when you enrol on the course.
