Units of Competency

The HLT33021 Certificate III in Allied Health Assistance includes 12 Units of Competency:

• BSBMED301 Interpret and apply medical terminology
• CHCCOM005 Communicate and work in health or community services
• CHCDIV001 Work with diverse people
• HLTAHA027 Assist with an allied health program
• HLTAHA049 Recognise impact of health conditions
• HLTINF006 Apply basic principles and practices of infection prevention and control
• HLTWHS001 Participate in workplace health and safety
• HLTAAP001 Recognise healthy body system
• HLTWHS005 Conduct manual tasks safely
• CHCCCS020 Respond effectively to behaviours of concern
• CHCCCS038 Facilitate the empowerment of people receiving support
• HLTAID011 Provide First Aid

Entry & eligibility requirements

There are no pre-entry study or qualification requirements, but to be eligible, you must:

• Reside in Western Australia;
• Possess suitable English language, literacy and numeracy skills (e.g. you will need to be able to read, understand and communicate care requirements on a care plan);
• Provide a copy of your passport or photo identification.

Prior to undertaking practical placement, you will be required to provide:

• Current Police Clearance (no older than six months) or NDIS Worker Screening Check; and
• Current COVID & flu vaccinations (unless exempt).

Career & study pathways

This certificate qualifies you to pursue roles such as support/care worker, Therapy Assistant, Physiotherapy assistant, Allied health assistant, planned activity assistant, Podiatry assistant, Speech pathology assistant

Those with this qualification may wish to continue by studying HLT43021 Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistance or further Allied Health related disciplines.

Mode of delivery, duration and assessment

This qualification is a blended delivery mode of regular attendance to face-to-face workshops and self-study. The total duration for this qualification may be between 6 to 12 months and can be completed at a pace that suits the individual learner.

Forms of study include:

• Online learning
• Face to face trainer led sessions
• Practical skills and written assessments
• 120 hours of work placement, arranged by Amana Living Training Institute

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is an assessment of your prior skills, knowledge and life experiences that can be transferred to complete aspects of your current course requirements.

You might already possess some of the skills or knowledge being assessed on this course. If so, you may not be required to complete one or more of the units of competency.

You first need to apply to have your knowledge and skills assessed for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). This must be done when you enrol in the course.
