Course details

This course is designed to give participants an awareness of common microbes, their role in aged and disability care, infections they may cause and the significance of assessing and managing risks.

Learning Outcomes
  • What infection is and the modes of transmission
  • The chain of infection
  • How to protect yourself and others
  • Standard and transmission-based precautions
  • Hand hygiene
  • PPE including donning and doffing
  • Identifying risk and taking appropriate action
  • Exposure to blood or bodily fluids
  • Environmental cleaning and waste management
Entry and eligibility requirements

Prior knowledge of infection control is required as this is a refresher training session.

To be eligible, you must also:

  • Possess suitable English language, literacy and numeracy skills (e.g. you will need to be able to read, understand and communicate care requirements on a care plan)
  • Be at least 18 years of age
Mode of delivery, duration and assessment

This course is delivered face-to-face at our Rivervale training venue for duration of 3 hours by our experience industry Trainers.
