Course details
The purpose of this topic is to provide the skills required to do the following:
- Care of the Diabetic client
- Monitor blood glucose levels and using a glucometer
- Administer Insulin via Insulin pen
Learning outcomes
By the end of the session the participants will be able to:
- Have a basic understanding of diabetes (Type 1, Type 2)
- Perform blood glucose monitoring using a glucometer
- Trouble shoot issues with glucometer
- Recognise abnormal blood glucose levels
- Report abnormal levels to appropriate supervisor
- Administer insulin as per requirements
- Document results
Entry and eligibility requirements
There are no pre-entry study or qualification requirements, but to be eligible, you must:
- Possess suitable English language, literacy and numeracy skills (e.g. you will need to be able to read, understand and communicate care requirements on a care plan);
- Be at least 18 years of age
Mode of delivery, duration and assessment
This course is delivered face-to-face at our Rivervale training venue for the duration of 3.5 hours by our experience industry Trainers.
