Manage Diabetes, BGL & Insulin

Course details

The purpose of this topic is to provide the skills required to do the following:

• Care of the Diabetic client
• Monitor blood glucose levels and using a glucometer
• Administer Insulin via Insulin pen

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the session the participants will be able to:

1. Have a basic understanding of diabetes (Type 1, Type 2)
2. Perform blood glucose monitoring using a glucometer
3. Trouble shoot issues with glucometer
4. Recognise abnormal blood glucose levels
5. Report abnormal levels to appropriate supervisor
6. Administer insulin as per requirements
7. Document results

Entry requirements

There are no pre-entry study or qualification requirements, but to be eligible, you must:

• Possess suitable English language, literacy and numeracy skills (e.g. you will need to be able to read, understand and communicate care requirements on a care plan);
• Be at least 18 years of age

Duration & learning method

This course is delivered face-to-face at our Rivervale training venue for the duration of 3.5 hours by our experience industry Trainers.

Certification

A certificate of participation is issued to each learning confirming the learning outcome.
