CHCSS00105 Palliative Approach Skill Set - Provide Support (Palliative Care) will provide students with the knowledge and practical skills required to support clients and the families of clients who require palliative care.

In addition to providing care during the final stages of life, palliative care helps the client to live well and comfortably, so that they can maintain good quality of life. It can be of benefit at the initial diagnosis, and at various times through the stages of an illness.

The workshop gives students the opportunity to engage with a subject matter expert (their trainer) and interact with other students.

Entry requirements

Entry/eligibility requirements

There are no pre-entry study or qualification requirements, but to be eligible, you must:

  • Reside in Western Australia;
  • Possess suitable English language, literacy and numeracy skills (e.g. you will need to be able to read, understand and communicate care requirements on a care plan); and
  • Provide a copy of your passport or photo identification.
  • Be at least 18 years of age

The units in this skill will provide credit towards a range of qualifications where these skills are required giving student options for further study in the aged, disability and community care training packages in courses such as:

  • CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing)
  • CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support (Home and Community)
  • CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability)
Study methods

Study methods and duration

The delivery of this qualification is a blended delivery mode of regular attendance to face-to-face workshops and self-study. The total duration for this qualification may be between 2 – 4 weeks depending on the learner.

Forms of study include:

  • Face to face clustered lecturer/trainer directed workshops
  • Workshop based practical skills and written assessments
  • Post course assignments

Units of competency

The skill set comprises of two nationally accredited units of competency:

  • CHCCCS017 Provide loss and grief support
  • CHCPAL001 Deliver care services using a palliative approach
RPL

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is an assessment of your prior skills, knowledge and life experiences that can be transferred to complete aspects of your current course requirements.

You might already possess some of the skills or knowledge being assessed on this course. If so, you may not be required to complete one or more of the units of competency.

You first need to apply to have your knowledge and skills assessed for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). This must be done when you enrol on the course.
