The education session will include a theory component as well as a practical session. An Amana Living Trainer will demonstrate:
- Removal of a stomal appliance
- Skin care around stoma site
- Application of a stomal appliance
Delivered by trainers with a clinical background and with relevant industry experience.
At the end of the session, participants will have a basic understanding of:
- What a stoma is and the different types of stomas
- The basic anatomy of the of the eliminatory system
- The Indications for a stoma and the reasons why a client may need assistance with their stoma
- The different types of stoma appliances and equipment required to care for a stoma
- The processes involved in the skin care and changing of stomal appliances
- Of peristomal skin issues
- What the observations and documentation requirements are when caring for a stoma
There are no pre-entry study or qualification requirements, but to be eligible, you must:
- Possess suitable English language, literacy and numeracy skills (e.g. you will need to be able to read, understand and communicate care requirements on a care plan)
- Be at least 18 years of age
This course is delivered face-to-face at our Rivervale training venue for the duration of 2 hours by our experience industry Trainers.
