Course details
The purpose of this training is to provide education on the care of a client with a tracheostomy and allow participants an opportunity to practice in a simulated environment.
Learning Outcomes
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the session the participants should:
- Understand what a Tracheostomy Tube is and their responsibilities of care.
- State the indications for a tracheostomy and some of the associated complications.
- Understand the management of the tracheostomy tube cuff, humidification, suctioning, changing or cleaning of the inner canula, stoma site assessment and dressing change and tracheostomy tube securement.
- State how communication with the client changes.
- Understand the importance of record keeping and reporting.
- Understand the importance of infection control principals.
- Demonstrate cuff management, suctioning, changing of inner tube, stoma care and tube securement.
Entry requirements
Entry requirements
There are no pre-entry study or qualification requirements, but to be eligible, you must:
- Possess suitable English language, literacy and numeracy skills (e.g. you will need to be able to read, understand and communicate care requirements on a care plan);
- Be at least 18 years of age

This course is delivered face to face at our Rivervale training venue for a duration of 7 hours by our experienced industry Trainers.

A certificate of participation is issues to each learner confirming the learning outcome.
