52890WA Certificate II in Community Health and Wellbeing
The Certificate II Community Health and Wellbeing in is a Nationally Recognised Training program under the Australian Qualification Framework (AQF). This qualification provides learners with basic industry skills and knowledge to enable transition into a traineeship within the Community Services or Health sectors at the Certificate III level or provide the students with industry specific skills and knowledge to gain employment in the Community Services or Health Sector with clearly defined guidelines and service plans.
This course is part of the Lower fees, local skills initiative, allowing eligible students to pay just half of the standard course fees for training in 2024.

Units of competency
The 52890WA Certificate II In Community Health and Wellbeing includes 9 Units of Competency:
- HLTINF006 Apply basic principles and practices of infection prevention & control
- HLTWHS001 Participate in workplace health and safety
- HLTWHS006 Manage personal stressors in the workplace
- HLTAID011 Provide First Aid
- CHCCOM005 Communicate and work in health or community services
- CHCDIV001 Work with diverse people
- CHCCCS038 Facilitate the empowerment of people receiving support
- CHCCCS020 Respond effectively to behaviour concerns
- CHCCCS010 Maintain a high standard of service
Entry & eligibility requirements
There are no pre-entry requirements, however to be eligible, you must:
- Reside in Western Australia;
- Possess suitable English language, literacy and numeracy skills (e.g. you will need to be able to read, understand and communicate care requirements on a care plan);
- Provide a copy of your passport or photo identification.
Prior to undertaking practical placement, you will be required to provide:
- Current Police Clearance (no older than six months) or NDIS Worker Screening Check; and
- Current COVID & flu vaccinations (unless medically exempt)
Career & study pathways
This qualification is designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge required to work in the Community Service industry under supervision with clearly defined guidelines and service plans.
This certificate qualifies students to pursue roles such as allied health assistant, care assistant, client assistant, community care worker, family support worker, home care assistant, respite care worker, nurses’ assistant, planned activity assistant, residential care worker or transport support worker.
All roles mentioned above require students to carry out direct care and support activities based on an individualised client plan, whilst reporting directly to a supervisor.
Those with this qualification may wish to continue by studying CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support and/or HLT33021 Certificate III in Allied Health Assistance
Mode of delivery, duration & assessment
The delivery of this qualification is a blended mode of online learning, regular attendance to face to face workshops, self study and practical placement. The total duration for this qualification may be between 3 to 6 months and can be completed at a pace that suits the individual student.
Forms of study include:
- Online learning
- Face to face trainer lead sessions
- Practical skills and written assessments
- 120 hours of work placement, arranged by Amana Living Training Institute
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is an assessment of your prior skills, knowledge and life experiences that can be transferred to complete aspects of your current course requirements.
This course is designed to attract new people to the Community and Health care sector and therefore not best suited to those with relevant skills and experience in this sector. Some learners may wish to consider enrolments into other courses such as HLT33021 Certificate III Allied Health Assistance
