To provide non-accredited education on Braces / Orthoses
This workshop will cover a general overview of Braces and Orthoses and provide students with the knowledge on how to assist a client with a brace. There is no assessment of skill in this session.
Practical demonstration:
An Amana Living Trainer will demonstrate:
- The application and removal of an Aspen brace
- Removal, cleaning and re-application of the braces’ cushioning pads
At the end of the session students will have had education on:
- About orthoses / braces
- Scope and role of the support worker
- The structure of the human spine
- Reasons for using a brace
- Types of braces including Jewett, CTLSO, Long Aspen, short Aspen and humeral fracture brace
- Putting on and removing a brace
- Care of a brace
- Pressure Injury prevention
- What to report to your supervisor
There are no pre-entry study or qualification requirements, but to be eligible, you must:
- Possess suitable English language, literacy and numeracy skills (e.g. you will need to be able to read, understand and communicate care requirements on a care plan)
- Be at least 18 years of age
This course is delivered face-to-face at our Rivervale training venue for duration of 2 hours by our experienced industry Trainers.
