Course details

To provide non-accredited education on Braces / Orthoses

This workshop will cover a general overview of Braces and Orthoses and provide students with the knowledge on how to assist a client with a brace. There is no assessment of skill in this session.

Practical demonstration:

An Amana Living Trainer will demonstrate:

• The application and removal of an Aspen brace

Removal, cleaning and re-application of the braces’ cushioning pads

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the session students will have had education on:

• About orthoses / braces
• Scope and role of the support worker
• The structure of the human spine
• Reasons for using a brace
• Types of braces including Jewett, CTLSO, Long Aspen, short Aspen and humeral fracture brace
• Putting on and removing a brace
• Care of a brace
• Pressure Injury prevention
• What to report to your supervisor

Entry requirements

There are no pre-entry study or qualification requirements, but to be eligible, you must:

• Possess suitable English language, literacy and numeracy skills (e.g. you will need to be able to read, understand and communicate care requirements on a care plan);
• Be at least 18 years of age

Duration & learning method

This course is delivered face-to-face at our Rivervale training venue for duration of 2 hours by our experienced industry Trainers.

Certification

A certificate of participation will be issued to the learner confirming the learning outcome.
