Course Details

This course is designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge required to work in the Aged Care industry in a residential care facility under supervision with clearly defined guidelines and services plans. This qualification reflects the role of support workers who follow an individualised care plan to provide person centred care to clients.

Care workers’ duties include:

  • Carrying out activities to maintain an individuals’ well-being through personal care and/or general activities of daily living.
  • Carry out tasks related to an individualised client care plan.
  • Support community participation and social inclusion.
  • Reporting directly to a supervisor.
Entry requirements

Entry & eligibility requirements

There are no pre-entry study or qualification requirements, however to be eligible, you must:

• Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident residing in Western Australia
• Demonstrate suitable English skills (language, literacy and numeracy). For example, demonstrate reading    and understanding a care plan, communication skills
• Copy of your passport/photo identification


Prior to undertaking practical placement, you will be required to provide:

• NDIS Worker Screening Check
• Current COVID-19 vaccination (unless exempt)
• Current flu vaccination (unless exempt)

Career & study pathways

This certificate qualifies you to pursue roles such as support/care worker, care assistant, client assistant, community care worker, family support worker, home care assistant, respite care worker, nurse’s assistant, planned activity assistant, residential care worker or transport support worker.

These are all roles that require you to carry out direct care and support activities based on an individualised client plan while reporting directly to a supervisor.

Those with this qualification may wish to continue by studying CHC43015 Certificate IV in Ageing Support and/or a nursing qualification.

Study Method

Duration, learning method and assessment

The delivery of this qualification is a blended delivery mode of regular attendance to face to face workshops, self study and practical placement. The total duration for this qualification may be between 6 to 12 months for completion and can be completed at a pace that suits the individual
student.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is an assessment of your prior skills, knowledge and life experiences that can be transferred to complete aspects of your current course requirements.

You might already possess some of the skills or knowledge being assessed on this course. If so, you may not be required to complete one or more of the units of competency.

You first need to complete a RPL Application Form. This must be done when you enrol on the course.
