HLT43021 Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistance
If you're interested in working as an assistant in allied health such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech pathology or a range of other allied health areas, this is the course for you!
A professional career in allied health can provide you with many opportunities to work in different healthcare settings — from small local medical centres through to large private and public hospitals, to schools and private medical practices, as well as in specialised facilities or organisations providing allied health services such as community rehabilitation and mental health clinics.
You'll learn how to deliver therapeutic support to allied health
professionals, gaining skills and knowledge to recognise healthy body systems;
confirm physical health status; and support people with chronic diseases and
dementia. You will also gain knowledge of safe work practices, legal and
ethical considerations, and current industry standards.

There are no pre-entry study or qualification requirements, however to be eligible, you must:
- Reside in Western Australia
- Possess suitable English language, literacy and numeracy skills (e.g. you will need to be able to read, understand and communicate care requirements on a care plan)
- Provide a copy of your passport or photo identification
Prior to undertaking practical placement, you will be required to provide:
- Current flu vaccination (unless exempt)
- NDIS Worker Screening Check
This qualification will provide learners with the skills and knowledge to deliver therapeutic support to allied health professionals, including practical skills to recognise the impact of health conditions; maintain functional health status; and support people with chronic diseases and dementia.
Those who complete this qualification may take their studies further in the growing Allied Health sector.
This qualification is a combination of face to face workshops and self study. With support and mentoring from our industry experienced trainers and assessors, the total duration for this qualification may be between 6 to 12 months dependent on a suitable pace for the learner.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is an assessment of your prior skills, knowledge and life experiences that can be transferred to complete aspects of your current course requirements.
You might already possess some of the skills or knowledge being assessed on this course. If so, you may not be required to complete one or more of the units of competency.
You first need to apply to have your knowledge and skills assessed for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). This must be done when you enrol in the course.
