The Certificate IV in Ageing Support qualification reflects the role of support workers who complete specialised tasks and functions in the aged services in either residential facilities or home-based care.

As a qualified aged or home and community care worker you may be required to:

  • carry out activities related to maintaining an individual’s wellbeing through personal care and/or other activities of living;
  • deliver services to individuals with complex needs, and/or work with groups of older people;
  • report to service managers and liaise with professionals and other service providers; and supervise and/or coordinate a limited number of other workers.

The Certificate IV in Ageing Support qualification reflects the role of support workers who complete specialised tasks and functions in the aged services in either residential facilities or home-based care.

An Aged or Home and Community Care worker’s duties may include:

• Providing services to older people who have complex needs.
• Carrying out activities related to maintaining an individual’s well-being through personal care and/or general activities of daily living
• Working with groups of older people
• Supervising and/or coordinating a limited number of other workers.
• Reporting to service managers and liaising with other professionals and service providers

Entry Requirements

Entry & eligibility requirements

There are no pre-entry study or qualification requirements, but to be eligible, you must:

  • Reside in Western Australia;
  • Possess suitable English language, literacy and numeracy skills (e.g. you will need to be able to read, understand and communicate care requirements on a care plan)
  • Provide a copy of your passport or photo identification.

Prior to undertaking practical placement, you will be required to provide:

  • Current Police Clearance (no older than six months) or NDIS Worker Screening Check and;
  • Have current COVID-19 vaccination & flu vaccinations (unless exempt);

Career & study pathways

This certificate qualifies you to pursue roles such as a team leader, care coordinator, community care or residential care worker.

These are roles that require you to complete specialised tasks and functions in aged care services based on the development, facilitation and review of an individualised client plan and may provide services to individuals with complex needs, and/or work with groups of older people.

Reporting to a supervisor and liaising with professionals and other service providers, but may be required to supervise and/or coordinate a limited number of other workers.

Those with this qualification might continue on to a nursing qualification.

Study Method

Duration, learning method and assessment

The delivery of this qualification is a blended mode of regular attendance to face-to-face workshops and self-study. The total duration for this qualification may be between 6 to 12 months and can be completed at a pace that suits the individual student.

  • Practical skills and written assessments
  • 140 hours of workplace placement learning

Recognition of Prior Learning

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is an assessment of your prior skills, knowledge and life experiences that can be transferred to complete aspects of your current course requirements.

You might already possess some of the skills or knowledge being assessed on this course. If so, you may not be required to complete one or more of the units of competency.

You first need to apply to have your knowledge and skills assessed for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). This must be done when you enrol in the course.

There is no cost for this course. This course is funded by the FEE FREE 2024 government initiative available from 1 January 2024.

Prerequisites

You must provide evidence for one of the following study methods to be eligible for this course:

• Completion of CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing); or

• Completion of CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support PLUS the unit CHCAGE011 Provide support to people living with dementia; or

• Completion of CHC30212 Certificate III in Aged Care PLUS the CHCSS00121 Entry to Certificate IV in Ageing Support Skill Set; or

• Completion of CHC30208 Certificate III in Aged Care PLUS the CHCSS00121 Entry to Certificate IV in Ageing Support Skill Set.

Qualifications and Statements of Attainment issued by Amana Living Training Institute will be recognised by other Registered Training Organisations (RTO) nationally.
