Course details
The following will be included in the education session:
• the basic anatomy of the digestive system
• the importance of regular bowel care, stool characteristics and related
signs and symptoms, nutrition and hydration requirements
• observing and recording changes in bowel habits
• related conditions including autonomic dysreflexia
• symptoms/indications of need for intervention and when to refer to a
health practitioner
• basic tools used to observe and record changes in bowels
• understanding of intervention options and techniques
• administration of non-routine medication as required (PRN
medications)
• 6 Rights of medication administration
• recognising the intensely personal nature of this type of support
• consent
• hygiene and infection control procedures
• support plan information
Entry requirements
There are no pre-entry study or qualification requirements, but to be eligible, you must:
- Possess suitable English language, literacy and numeracy skills (e.g. you will need to be able to read, understand and communicate care requirements on a care plan);
- Be at least 18 years of age
Duration and learning method
This course is delivered face to face at our Rivervale training venue for a duration of 2.5 hours by our experienced industry Trainers.
Certification
A certificate of participation will be issued to each learner confirming the learning outcome.
