Course Details

The purpose of this unit is to describe the skills and knowledge required for a worker to participate in safe work practices to ensure their own health and safety, and that of others in work environments that involve caring directly for clients. It has a focus on maintaining safety of the worker, the people being supported and other community members

Entry and eligibility requirements

Entry and eligibility requirements

There are no pre-entry study or qualification requirements, but to be eligible, you must:

  • Reside in Western Australia;
  • Possess suitable English language, literacy and numeracy skills (e.g. you will need to be able to read, understand and communicate care requirements on a care plan); and
  • Provide a copy of your passport or photo identification.
  • Be at least 18 years of age

The unit of competency standards requires a level of physical ability to meet the evidence requirements for assessment.

Due to the potential risk to health and safety, any worker who does not have the physical ability to meet the competencies standards of assessment will not be issued a Statement of Attainment.

The course entails a blended delivery mode of attendance to 1 or 2 days face-to-face workshop/s and self-study. The total duration for this course may take 1 week to complete depending on the learner.

Forms of study include:

  • Face to face clustered lecturer/trainer directed workshops
  • Workshop based practical skills assessment and written assessments

An annual refresher of this course is recommended.
