Infection Control Skill Set (Health Care)

This skill set is suitable for people who require the skills and knowledge to decrease the risk and transmission of infection whilst carrying out their daily duties. The skills and knowledge can be applied to specific healthcare industry needs such as direct client care, community care, disability care and other work environments where you provide support to individuals or groups of people.

Those who complete this course would typically:

  • Support activities to maintain personal care and/or other activities of living for people in a care setting
  • Support activities related to an individualised plan
  • Report directly to a supervisor and are not responsible for other workers
Entry requirements

Entry requirements

There are no pre-entry study or qualification requirements, but to be eligible, you must:

  • Reside in Western Australia;
  • Possess suitable English language, literacy and numeracy skills (e.g. you will need to be able to read, understand and communicate care requirements on a care plan); and
  • Provide a copy of your passport or photo identification.
  • Be at least 18 years of age

The unit in this skill will provide credit towards a range of qualifications where these skills are required giving student options for further study in the aged, disability and community care training packages in courses such as:

  • 52841WA Certificate II in Introduction to Aged Care
  • 52840WA Certificate II in Introduction to Disability Care
  • CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing)
  • CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support (Home and Community)
  • CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability)

Study methods & duration

The delivery of this qualification is a blended delivery mode of face-to-face workshops and self-study. The total duration for this qualification may be between 12-20 hours dependent upon the existing skills of the learner

Forms of study include:

  • Face to face clustered lecturer/trainer directed workshops
  • Workshop based practical skills and written assessments
  • Post course assignments

Completing this free skill set will be recognised by a Statement of Attainment for the units listed above.
