Personal Care Refresher

Course details

This workshop will cover the education of the topics listed below as well as a practical section. An Amana Living Trainer will demonstrate tasks in a simulated environment.

The workshop will be a mix of theory and practical and will include.

• The principles of Person-Centred Care
• Individualised support planning
• Basic care giving principles
• Roles and responsibilities of support workers
• Privacy, confidentiality and dignity
• Reporting requirements
• Infection control and mobility considerations
• Skin integrity, skin tears and pressure injuries
• Changed behaviours and ADLs
• Activities of Daily living tasks

Practical Session:

• Trainer will show students various equipment used when delivering ADLs
• Trainer will demonstrate various activities of daily living tasks as listed
  • Showering / Bed bathing
  • Dressing and undressing
  • Hair care
  • Oral Hygiene
  • Shaving
  • Personal Grooming
  • Nail care
  • Toileting and continence management

Eating and drinking techniques (Note: this is not a dysphagia session)

Entry requirements

Learners are required to have experience with ADLs or have undergone previous personal care training.

To be eligible, you must:

• Possess suitable English language, literacy and numeracy skills (e.g. you will need to be able to read, understand and communicate care requirements on a care plan);
• Be at least 18 years of age

Duration & learning method

This course is delivered face to face at our Rivervale training venue for a duration of 3 hours by our experienced industry Trainers.

Certification

A certificate of participation will be issued to each learner confirming the learning outcome.
