Course Details
This course describes the skills and knowledge needed to provide CPR to a casualty in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines. The training applies to people who may be required to provide CPR in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.
Entry and eligibility requirements
Now accepting enrolments from international students currently on study visas
There are no pre-entry study or qualification requirements, but to be eligible, you must:
- Reside in Western Australia;
- Possess suitable English language, literacy and numeracy skills (e.g. you will need to be able to read, understand and communicate care requirements on a care plan); and
- Provide a copy of your passport or photo identification.
- Be at least 18 years of age
The unit of competency standards requires a level of physical ability to meet the evidence requirements for assessment.
Due to the potential risk to health and safety, any worker who does not have the physical ability to meet the competencies standards of assessment will not be issued a Statement of Attainment.
Mode of delivery, duration and assessment
Half day face-to-face trainer led session including in-class assessment.

Outcomes
After completing this course, you will be able to demonstrate the following skills:
- Identify emergency situations
- Recognise and minimise immediate dangers to health & safety of self and others
- Assess casualty and identify the need for cardiopulmonary resuscitation
- Seek assistance from emergency response services
- Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation correctly
- Display respectful behaviour towards casualties
- Operate automated external defibrillator (AED) according to manufacturer’s instructions
- Correctly describe incident details to emergency response services
- Report details of incident to workplace supervisor as appropriate
- Maintain confidentiality of records and information in line with statutory and/or organisational policies
