Course Details

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to organise, provide and monitor support services within the limits established by an individualised plan.

The individualised plan refers to the support or service provision plan developed for the individual accessing the service and may have many different names in different organisations.

This unit applies to workers who provide support under direct or indirect supervision in any community services or health context.

Entry requirements

Entry/eligibility requirements

There are no pre-entry study or qualification requirements, but to be eligible, you must:

  • Reside in Western Australia;
  • Possess suitable English language, literacy and numeracy skills (e.g. you will need to be able to read, understand and communicate care requirements on a care plan); and
  • Provide a copy of your passport or photo identification.
  • Be at least 18 years of age

The unit of competency standards requires a level of physical ability to meet the evidence requirements for assessment.

Due to the potential risk to health and safety, any worker who does not have the physical ability to meet the competencies standards of assessment will not be issued a Statement of Attainment.

The unit in this course will provide credit towards a range of qualifications where these skills are required giving student options for further study in the aged, disability and community care training packages in courses such as:

  • 52841WA Certificate II in Introduction to Aged Care
  • CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing)
  • CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support (Home and Community)
  • CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability)
Study methods

Study methods and duration

The delivery of this course is a blended delivery mode of attendance to a 1 day face-to-face workshop and self-study. The total duration for this qualification may be between 2 – 4 weeks depending on the learner

Forms of study include:

  • Face to face clustered lecturer/trainer directed workshops
  • Workshop based practical skills and written assessments
  • Post course assignments
  • On the job assessments (if applicable)

RPL

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is an assessment of your prior skills, knowledge and life experiences that can be transferred to complete aspects of your current course requirements.

You might already possess some of the skills or knowledge being assessed on this course. If so, you may not be required to complete one or more of the units of competency.

You first need to apply to have your knowledge and skills assessed for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). This must be done when you enrol on the course.
