Course Details
The purpose of this unit is to provide skills and knowledge required for a worker to do the following:
- apply basic infection prevention and control principles in work settings including implementing standard and transmission-based
precautions and responding to risk.
This unit applies to individuals working in a range of industry and work setting contexts.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the session participants will be able to:
- Understand the role of infection
- Follow standard and transmission-based precautions
- Respond to potential and actual exposure to infection risks within scope of own role
Entry/eligibility requirements
There are no pre-entry study or qualification requirements, however to be eligible, you must:
- Reside in Western Australia;
- Possess suitable English language, literacy and numeracy skills; and
- Provide proof of identity
Prior to undertaking practical placement, you will be required to provide:
- Current National Police Clearance or NDIS Worker Screen Check
Students must be able to follow and recall instructions and information provided by the trainer in English in order to complete all the required course activities for assessment.
The unit of competency standards requires a level of physical ability to meet the evidence requirements for assessment.
Due to the potential risk to health and safety, any worker who does not have the physical ability to meet the competencies standards of assessment will not be issued a Statement of Attainment.

Duration: 8:30 - 4:30
- 1 day face-to-face trainer directed workshop
- In class written assessment

- HLT33021 Certificate III in Allied Health Assistance
- HLT43021 Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistance
Fees and charges
The cost of this single unit of competency is $100.
Recognition of Prior Learning
You might already possess some of the skills or knowledge being assessed on this course. If so, you may not be required to complete one or more of the units of competency. You first need to apply to have your knowledge and skills assessed for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). This must be done when you enrol in the course.
